Pandemic Changes Everything!

Where have you been? How are you holding up? These are questions family and friends are asking each other since experiencing this life changing event. People are now ending conversations with “Stay safe”. These have been the new norm for a conversation. Kind of like hunger game or just survival of the fittest.

A lot has occurred since we first got locked down back in March, 2020. The world came to halt and just like that our lives has change. Hence why it has taken me some time to get back on here. We are not fully out of the woods but we are not on lockdown and that shows some kind of progress. Some states has reopened 100% while others are being cautious like my state, New Jersey.

Let’s recap

1. Biden/Harris is our new President/Vice President despite the allegations brought on by previous president trump claiming that the election was rigged.

2. On January 6th, After Trumps speech, his supporters went to the capital and carried out an insurrection because they supported Trumps false allegations . This ended in death and just a disgusting taste in the American people mouth.

3. Biden was inaugurated inspire of this insurrection on January 6, which I feel will hit the history books shortly. All eyes are on the president now to see if there will be more actions than words.

4. Americans has finally received the third stimulus check. While other countries receive stimulus throughout the year, America is finally making moves, or should I say “baby steps”. Even college students received the third check this round. They are also able to file taxes and receive the first two stimulus they weren’t originally qualified for.

5. They now have a vaccination for the deadly virus that took love ones lives this past year. Some Americans are skeptical for their own reasons and one of it is the fact that a vaccination was developed so quickly. This is what I’ve read and seen on social media. I believe people are growing weary of this new way of living. I personally get it! This has affected everyone someway or another, whether positive or negative.

A lot more has occurred but you get a little idea. I’ve learned a lot during this downtime. I am a strong believer that everything happens for a reason. A lot of small businesses was created in results of this pandemic. Inner creativeness emerged like a flower in spring time and I am here to support it.

At one point, Celebrations were done differently. Can you believe people get dressed up and sit outside to wait for our guest to drive pass their home while honking their horns to wish them happy birthday to graduation wishes? Now, we are allowed to have a gathering, but still be cautious to the size and practice social distance.

MoMs, I have to say I am truly more appreciative of my kids teacher. Being home working and assisting with homeschool was and still is a hard thing to do, but we get things done. When we left to go to work and the kids went to school, that was our little break from each other. It does not mean we do not love our family. The break brought relationship closer in the household, in my opinion. We are not fully back to where we use to be but I can see a little hope.

I just want to say welcome back to all my MoMs as well for getting back on the horse. I know for a fact that you have lost your balance at one point during this time. You may have even questioned your parenting skills once or a couple of times. Patience we’re low at times and may have fussed a little or a lot. Don’t feel guilty at all! Just remember it affected everyone including your kids. Give them a break and spend quality one on one time. They need to talk about their experience too. Let’s promise to be more easy on ourselves. Glad to see you on top again to be the best that you can be.

If I am seeing it, I know for a fact you are seeing it. What is IT?

Lets talk about it sis!

Ahmahd Arbery was shot and killed by two individuals who felt so imperior and felt the need to take someone childs life!

George Floyd was killed by a Minneapolis police while restrained and on the ground pleading for his life and I felt like this was dejavu. Why? While this officer pinned the gentleman down by his neck, with the little energy George had he formed the words, “I can’t breathe”.

Lets flash back to 3 years ago (2017). A father was harrassed by undercover police and was being detained because he was accused of selling cigaretts in public. Eric Gardner was also retained in handcuffs and multiple officers held him down while he pleaded for his life. How did he plea for his life? Mr. Gardner said, “I can’t breathe”.

What is it that you fear about us? What makes you so afraid that you feel your life is in harms way? What is it about us that makes you grind your teeth and wish evil upon us? What are you lacking in your life that makes you filled with such evil, jealous, ill feeling towards us? What is it?

Jealous- feeling or showing envy of someone or their achievements and advantages-

I have two black boys I am raising and I am worried! Why do I have to have conversatios with my boys and even my girls regarding this world we live in and advise them how to behave for the ‘What ifs’. What if a police stop you outside while riding your bicycle or a Karen may feel threaten and call police on you, which puts your life in danger.

Is this the America Trump wants to make great AGAIN? AGAIN how? Let that sink in. Pay attention to your surroundings and how people act.

Hold your kids close and pray/educate them. Take this time to spend quality time with your family. Read more and plant seeds in your young ones. I am tired and I know a lot of MoMs are too. If the death of Goerge Floyd amongst others doesnt ignite anger in you or any emotions, you are the PROBLEM!

Motivational Mondays

How Many MoMs dread the thought of Monday Mornings? What does it mean to you? I think everyone has share these same emotions regaridng this day. For some it is hard to get back in to the groove after a relaxing weekend. I know for it can be hectic for MoMs all around the world. We do so much on a sunday so by the time Monday comes, we are exhausted. I use to reference this day as ‘Madness Monday’, but I have decided to transform it into something great because I do believe we all deserve greatness.

Lets start embracing Monday like warriors defeating their enemies at battle. Life is what we make it, therefore Mondays are what we make of it. It is time to motivate ourselves let our goals manifest.

This day may start off rough but trust there is always something to be grateful for.

Exercise: Write down one of your goals for the week. Say it out loud and put in the work!

My goal this week is to be consisitent. How many of us have made schedules or decided to make a change to our lifestyle, took it out for a test drive and left it at the end of a dirt road.

Hi, My name is Karina and I am guilty of falling off track towards my goal and sorry to say I am a repeat offender of doing that. One thing you shouldn’t do is beat yourself up if you do. Life is too short and it’s your life, so MoM up and just do it.

Join in with me and set a goal and lets achieve it together MoMs.

Graves Disease Changes Everything

Grave Disease is exactly what it says it is. If it is left untreated it will put you in the grave or make you feel as if you’re close to it.

below is an insert from

Graves’ disease is an immune system disorder that results in the overproduction of thyroid hormones (hyperthyroidism). Although a number of disorders may result in hyperthyroidism, Graves’ disease is a common cause.

Because thyroid hormones affect a number of different body systems, signs and symptoms associated with Graves’ disease can be wide ranging and significantly influence your overall well-being. Although Graves’ disease may affect anyone, it’s more common among women and before the age of 40.

The primary treatment goals are to inhibit the overproduction of thyroid hormones and lessen the severity of symptoms.

I am the youngest of 3 girls for my mother. My oldest sister is known to be the party person or should I say the life of the party. She is caring, nurturing and over protective. she has always been apart of my highlights in my life, whether it was graduation or dance recitals. Lets just say she played the big sister role perfectly.

My sister changed her diet a few years back and started walking around the track field. The results were great because she lost weight, but then the weight kept shedding to the point my inner voice wondered if she was sick. She had enough energy for 3 persons running on a treadmill. Relationships were being broken because she thought people were out to get her.  She was very anxious and irritated, which affected her relationship. All of this just made me think she was just going through a midlife crisis. Until we received a phone call.

Common signs and symptoms of Graves’ disease include:

  • Anxiety and irritability
  • A fine tremor of your hands or fingers
  • Heat sensitivity and an increase in perspiration or warm, moist skin
  • Weight loss, despite normal eating habits
  • Enlargement of your thyroid gland (goiter)
  • Change in menstrual cycles
  • Erectile dysfunction or reduced libido
  • Frequent bowel movements
  • Bulging eyes (Graves’ ophthalmopathy)
  • Fatigue
  • Thick, red skin usually on the shins or tops of the feet (Graves’ dermopathy)
  • Rapid or irregular heartbeat (palpitations)

My sister ended up in the hospital on February 12th, but we received a phone call on Valentine’s Day in regards to her whereabouts. I just spoke to my sister and she was fine, what is going on? My sister was hospitalized and was in what they call a ‘Thyroid Storm’. The over production of thyroid hormones sent her body into shock. Everything was out of whack. Her pressure was dangerously high to the point she could have died.

My nerves were all over the place as well. I kept a journal for every change in pressure or any movement she made for the day, which was labeled 0. She wasn’t moving. The tube was helping her breath because her lungs were weak. She was there but she wasn’t. Her fingers started twitching and slowly she was able to lift her hands. The first sign that she was going to be ok.

My sister ended up going to rehab right after recovering in the hospital. I was happy and nervous at the same time. My full of life independent older sister was going to need help. It broke my heart to figure out she was still eager to be independent. In my eyes I did consider her to be one of my dependent. I wanted to provide and care for my sister. It was the love I have inside and the fear of my moms health being compromised in results of this life changing event for my sister. In this moment I knew I had to let her find her true self. You see, some people need to fall completely, sink to their lowest sunken place in order to gain focus and accept help. There is this thing that floats around in my culture a lot and it’s called “Pride”. We all have it but our doses are different. What’s that saying? “There’s levels to this ish” (excuse the slang, or maybe not).

So what do I do? What would a MoM do if their child came to them and said they are going to take a break from school or go out despite you telling them it’s not a good idea? Sometimes in life you have to let them go THROUGH it on their own. Figure it out on their own and experience life because in that moment and I mean it MoM , life is going to knock them down. No, we will not be there to say “I told you so”. Get ready for this mind blowing requirements from you MoMs. You wait to be approached and let them fall into your arms. Rub their back and you let them know you are here for them. Just your presence alone can work wonders. Listen and ensure them that whatever they decide you will be there regardless. You ever heard the saying that God places people in your life for a reason and a season? Or how about in the movie, The Twilight Saga, where the wolf has made a print on the baby? MoMs, sprinkle away. Sprinkle some wisdom with extra love on top. I did just that. Pride is something else!

I started this draft last year September 2018.

The Pride land still exist. The End. Lol!

In all honesty, it has gotten better. My sister is still on the road to recovery. She finally getting back on her feet. It is still a battle because there is always a side effect to medication. Do I still see her as a dependent? Hell yes! I miss my sister dearly . The sister who supported me in every way by showing up to the important milestones in my life! When I see my sister it feels as if…you see that’s the problem. There’s no feeling. I leaned towards my other sister for support. She helps me keep my sanity because I feel I should be doing so much more for my sissy because if my feelings are numb, can you imagine my sisters feelings?

If you or a love one has suffered with Graves’ disease check out

God will not give us more than we can bare.

Love & Unity (It’s a Lee ting)

I wanted to share something special for those who lost their MoM. I know when this time comes around it is actually hard for you guys to handle. While some are visiting their MoMs to take them to dinner or spend time with them, others are visiting grave sites with flowers or sitting up reminiscing about their MoMs love.

I want you all to know that your MoM is so proud of you. She is smiling from ear to ear with such awe of what you have accomplished for yourself. Yes, you may have stumbled along the way. She has been there yearning to hug you physically each time. She did an amazing job with you and she knows you are doing great! Keep making her proud in heaven and she loves you.

Let us take time out of this special day to pay respect for those who have lost their MoM. Just stay in silence for 5 minutes while you relax your muscles in your body. As you release air, fully let go and let God. I don’t know who you believe in but you have to believe in something to keep pushing.

Father God thank you for being so awesome. Thank you for being so understanding. Today is a special day for some giving honor to their MoMs. I want to take this time out to ask for your strength for those who have lost their MoMs. I ask that you lift them up lord. Send your angels to encamp around them. Restore their joy, their peace. Reassure them that their MoM is proud and is anticipating their next accomplishment. We thank you and we magnify you lord. Amen, Ameen.

Stay strong and know you have a proud MoM.

If you have lost your MoM drop a comment below on how you spend this day. Share a memory. I am looking forward to hearing from you

Happy Mother’s Day MoMs

How are you spending your day ladies? I Mean everyday is your day, but today is when the whole world stops and make time for all MoMs. How many MoMs are acting like its the first day of school? Think back to what you were doing the night before the first day of school. I am from Brooklyn and we use to lay out our outfits the night before. I use to lay and envision what the next day would consist of. I know some of my MoMs are probly excited right now wondering what their love ones will cook for them or what kind of heartfelt gifts they will get.

Proverbs 31:25: “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.”

We are clothed in strength and dignity indeed and this is passed down from our MoM, GrandMoM, Great GrandMoM and so on. I can recall the time in my life where we loss our brother to gun violence (wrong place, wrong time). It left a hole in my MoMs heart. After we laid him to rest, we hardly had food. My Mom had a plate of food only to feed one person and I told her we should share. My MoM turned to me and said, “Go ahead and eat Kari, I will be alright”. It was in that moment I saw my MoMs strength and dignity. Despite her world crumbling round her she made sure I was ok. That very moment made an impact on my life and helped me be a better MoM. That strength is what I reference when I am struggling with challanges we are faced as MoMs. I figured if my MoM can, then I can!

MoM with my brother Garfield- RIP big Bro

Do you have a moment you shared with your MoM where she demomstrated Strength? Share your stories below.

Mental Check-in

Lets rewind the time right before this Pandemic. How many of you use to complain about going into the office? How many of you wish that you could work from home? Just the thought of rolling out of bed and starting your shift in the comfort of your home made you smile inside.

Lets fast forward to now, after the announcement of this pandemic. It is now approaching two months since we have been working from home, How many of you are complaining about working from home? How many of you wish that you can work at the office?

You can’t please everyone right? Upon approving a proposal there are underlying factors that can impact your decision as to whether you will agree to it. I believe when you use to wish that you could work from home, you were assuming that the house would be yours. Your kids would be in school and your partner at his job.

Now that this pandemic affects EVERYONE and you are now forced to work from home, you might be having second thoughts. It’s not the same right? This is probably the biggest challenge you have faced in your whole life. Please do not think you are alone!

There are plenty of MoMs around the world struggling with their household as well. Can you image the MoMs that are unorganized and all over the place? Well I am that MoM. You guys already know I am in my home with 4 little mini me running wild. Call it ‘Crib Gone Wild’. The teenagers are independent, but it doesn’t mean they do not have needs. My 7 year old has school work to complete through out the week, but he requires supervision because he rather watch NetFlix.

I would love to netflix & chill, but I have to join Microsoft Team Meet to train our staff or get updated information regarding our department. It is during that time, my 4 year old decides to tell me stories and ask me for things she knows she can’t get. What do I do? I negotiate with her and offer her a cookie if she agrees to wait in the bedroom for me. This has now been my life since March 16th. “Please be quiet, Please go in the room, I have a meeting at 12…3pm too, I need the room, can someone follow Aaliyah to the bathroom (because she is afraid), Jayden, take a break even though its your fifth one”, is all I say during this work from home Pandemic.

MoMs, please don’t beat yourself up during this time. You are not alone. You are still that awesome MoM in your kids eyes. You forgot to complete something? Do it the next day. Always remember to breath. It’s a Pandemic, but you are still alive and able to keep pushing. Push for those who didn’t make it! Push because after every storm there is a rainbow at the end. Think to yourself real quick, was there a challenge you were faced with that you couldn’t overcome and get pass it?

You will make it through this. I will see you MoMs at the finish line mingling 6 ft apart!

Comment on how you are handling working from home with your love ones. We want to hear your side of WFH!

Working From Home During a Pandemic

The last day working in the office was March 13th. I can hardly remember things, but that date sticks out like a needle in a haystack. That was the last day of free time away from my lovely children. I am not organized. Although I am great at planning, the problem is sticking to it and seeing it through. I had the weekend to get everything in order, but instead I chose to relax and drink a few wine to prepare myself mentally. I would be working from home with a full house of kids. 1,2,3,4 kids ranging in age.

Kalilla is my oldest sweetheart who is a senior in High School and recently turned 18.

Khalil is my second sweetheart who is in 8th grade and he is 14 years old.

Jayden is my third sweetheart who is in 1st grade and he is 7 years old.

Aaliyah is my fourth and last sweetheart who is 4 years old and curious as can be.

My main focus was Jayden and Aaliyah because they were the youngest and needed guidance the most. Well, lets just say I thought wrong. This by far is the most challenging thing in my life. I respect Teachers, Lunch Aids, and stay at home MoMs. You guys Rock!

The first day was very hard to focus on my daily task at work and ensure that the kids were completing their school work. The plus sign was that Aaliyah was able to learn with her brother Jayden.

Did I question my motherhood? I sure did! what did I do? I wrote out a schedule which included Gym/music time. How long did the extra curriculum classes last? 3 days! I wasnt going to beat myself up either! for crying out loud, we are experiencing a pandemic.

Do not be hard on yourself. Use this time to build/grow spiritually/mentally. Build on your current skills. Discover your skills, enhance your skills and capitalize on your skills. No questions, just do it or ask Google and then do it!!

This is Jayden participating in school spirit week! Yes the show must go on virtually. Crazy socks day. After looking at this Christmas sweater, leads me to think it was crazy dress day period! Lol he chose it

We also celebrated Kalilla’s 18th birthday during this pandemic. The year that she has been waiting for started to look dim. She deserved this celebration!

Looks good right? Nothing big really. I just bought Starbucks ice dark roasted coffee, French vanilla creamer and whip cream and mix them myself. Really helped relieved the stress and gave me a boost of energy.

This pandemic doesn’t have to get the best of you. There are others out there doing worse than you. Thank God that I am already a homebody. I just hope the extrovert will survive this.

Stay safe, stay focus

ER: Stuck Between Pain and Copay

Most people analyze their sickness thoroughly before heading to the ER because of the high copay. Copay use to be $100 and now has increased a whole $100.00. Not $5, $25, or even $40. Copay is now $200! The stress level has increased with it.

On Saturday September 8th, I decided to cook. I normally don’t cook on a Saturday, but school has started back for the kids. I was making some baked Mac n cheese and I wanted to go hard on the cheese. Put an umph on it, level up, exclamation mark it! I had shredded cheese in my refrigerator but wanted to get a different kind of cheese. I bought a block of Monterey cheese mixed with something else. I also picked up a cheese grater to shred it. I finished the Mac n cheese but wanted to add that umph I was telling you about, on top of the Mac n cheese. I was moving too fast trying to get it done and didn’t position the grater correctly.

Swoosh! RED. That’s all I saw. Panic mode but I have to remain calm because it’s actually my body. I grater my thumb and it was deep. Automatically I wrapped the bad boy to at least stop the bleeding but the way the blood was deep red I knew I had to go to the Emergency Room!

I get there, Princeton hospital aka Penn Med, signed in and got prescreen. Tic toc, waited a decent 10 minutes before being called into the room. Only to be told “please have a seat we will be with you shortly”. Hell, I could have remained seated outside still if that’s the case. Time went by came back around and went by again. The doctor came in and evaluated the wound and determined that I would need 2-3 stitches. My nerves shot up! She explained that she would have to numb the surrounding area and inside the deep wound. 🤦🏾‍♀️palm to face like really Karina! I was so annoyed with myself. I counted to three like a big ass kid and instructed her when she can start the process. I called that lady out of her name and then had to apologize for it. Now, this behavior is coming from a mother who had four C-Sections and appendectomy done in the past. Nevertheless, the doctor did a good job in my eyes stitching me up. Ended up being 4 stitches, she 🤥 LIED… lol

The billing lady came in gather information and then said ” the copay is $200, how would you like to pay?”. I said “the devil is a lie, I don’t have that today but mail me my bill”. She said, “have a nice day Ms. Campbell”. This is America! Work hard for chump change and the moment I injure myself you want me to offer my arm and legs also. Thank you lord that I don’t have anything worse than a small wound and the fact that I’m fat (I’m working on that. It’s been 2 years struggle but I’m working on it.. lol).

After experiencing this minor injury I am thinking about buying some glue because maybe I can do it at home. Or even locate my nearest urgent care location because that would be $50 as to oppose to paying $200. It’s approaching two weeks now and I’m able to move my thumb with minimum pain. When in doubt, suck it up and go to the ER. Can’t have regrets in your coffin.

P.S. I have discarded the grater. As small as this wound was, I was traumatized because it kept replaying in my head.

Target: to shop or not to

Who doesn’t like shopping at Target? At first I was hesitant becasue its expensive for one and was above my budget. I always went to walmart for my needs before giving Target a thought. Walmart is a one stop shopping center that os very affordable. One downfall is that eveyr single walmart store I’ve been in seem to lack cashiers. It cna be the most busiest day of the week and they will only have 2-4 lanes open. It’s as if that was set up in their manul handbook. There are ways to get around the high price at target.

Target has an app called ‘Cartwheel’ which offers discounts on certain items. Just the other day I went and bought 4 Vaseline lotions (10oz) for $7.66 and also received $5.00 Target card. I also bought two Nutrisse hair coloring product for a total of $8.58 and also received a $5.00 Target card. Nutrisee can be as expensive as $8.00 each.

Target has 70% of their register open and ready for their customers. The associates are more friendly and maybe it has something to do with the pay rate and benefits. This doesn’t meman that I will never go to walmart again. Matter of fact, I went to walmart tonight and bought a few cheap, affordable items. Guess what? it wasn’t busy at all.

I went to the one on rt 130 in East Windsor and it might be my home Walmart. I’ll keep you posted after I visit it during the day. I will be shopping at both stores because just like everything youre face with, will have a pro and con to it.
